You can find me here now. I’m George FitzGerald, a producer, songwriter and DJ from London. I’ve been releasing records and touring for close to 15 years.
The plan is to share music, live recordings, thoughts and things I love, and generally speak about the experience of being an electronic musician in the modern world. I want to use the knowledge that I’ve accumulated through endless time (mis)spent in studios, digging for records, going to gigs, and thinking about the culture.
Right now, I’m writing a fourth album, and I’m going to let you in on the process, whether by posting early sketches and ideas, or talking about the instruments and tools I’m using. I’m also regularly DJing throughout the UK, Europe and beyond, so to kick things off I’m sharing a recording of my recent open-to-close show (11-5am) in Village Underground, London.
There are lots of clichés when it comes to extended DJ sets - the ‘journey’, the promise of a unique insight into the deepest recesses of a selector’s record collection, the endless party. Quite often they’re nonsense. The truth is that whilst you have a vague idea of where a six-hour set might go beforehand, that often goes out of the window the moment you are confronted by the unpredictable reality of a club full of people and nobody to share the booth with. But this show was a really good one - a reminder of why I love this frequently silly art form in the first place.
There are some unreleased tracks in there, some I’m listening to at the moment, and some that are so good, I’m rarely able to get through a longer set without playing them. Talk to you soon.
